COVID—19 Has A Good Side

Twenty-Twenty-One is here and Covid is still on the surge and killing people across the globe.

Looks like it’s actually going to stay with us longer than expected.

Regardless of all the sad deaths, ever increasing infection rates, new strains, inequality in vaccine distribution etc. There’s still some good side to the virus especially for those of us working from home.

I do miss the office sometimes , other days I just wish I’d work from home till I retire. I’m not driving 4 hours to and fro Monday- Friday. This is good for me.

I only miss the office chit chats in the canteen, the afternoon walks around the block, the warm hugs on Monday especially from the guys who smell so *GOOD*.

One funny and interesting thing I miss: the drawing of my eyes brows and *POLISHING* my face in traffic.๐Ÿ˜œ I’ve been seen/caught a lot in traffic doing that by friends and family.

Now to the juiciest part of working from home, I have been able to save 15% of my salary every month, apparently, I used to spend close to 25% of my salary on fuel.

Colleagues and close friends have also talked about the close bond they’ve formed with their children, being their teachers and parents (spousal bond is a topic for another day). Challenging but worthy it. I applaud all TEACHERS!  I also had the opportunity to home school my nieces and nephews, trust me, it was not an easy task.

WFH(working from home), I must admit, was pretty tough initially- I was getting up every 2hrs to pick a snack or something to nibble on. I gained quite some weight the first three months.

I decided to start my weekend walks every evening and that has really kept me in shape.

I also started improving on my writing skills, thanks to my cousin Ese for starting this blog and editing my articles. Third article so far. I am proud of myself.

And we are not done. I started a weekend sewing school and on my 3rd day in class(January 23rd, 2021) I made my first garment. A pleated and gathered skirts!

I’m excited! I will continue and learn more.

Take the opportunity to learn something new especially if you are working from home.

Draw a plan, Pray about it, focus and it’ll materialize.

My sewing school is all the way in Tse Addo behind trade fair, (TOPAS CLOTHING) someone asked why commute that far. My response “ I miss drawing my eye brows in traffic so an opportunity to keep drawing so I don’t forget my makeup skill”.

Appreciation

Ethel, thanks for introducing me to Mr. Pascal Tomety. My favorite cheerleaders (mum and big sis), AA๐Ÿ’œ, he smirks when I code his name, he thinks I’m not a novice at sewing, just perfecting my skills. Well I’m not so much of a novice because I still have my JSS vocational skills knowledge, thanks to Miss Elizabeth.

CC, who thinks I’m versatile, because I do makeup, I sell bedsheets and towels, I give her some godly and interesting pieces of advice which seems to be working. Now,I’m learning how to sew.

To all family and loved ones who appreciated my status when I posted my first work, my stitches aren’t straight yet, but with time I’ll get there.

Watch out for a brand soon!

Stay safe and woke.

Mask up.

Wash your hands regularly with soap under running water.

Avoid crowded activities.

And remember Covid is real.

Challenge yourself while WFH. Most importantly, we be safe, we all need you alive.

Cheers!

Your new dressmaker,

Thelma Obimpeh.

Heels are not my wedding shoes

I thought we had Covid-19  under control but Ghana is steadily moving to a second wave of covid cases. Why? People are not taking the Covid-19 protocols serio usly and that’s pretty upsetting . My teammate joins the public transport every day to work and she tells me, she’s sometimes the only one wearing the mask. That’s very unfortunate. I wish we will all be responsible because covid doesn’t end with how cautious you are. We protect ourselves to save ourselves and others. Wear your masks, wash your hands, keep a sanitizer and observe social distance.   Don’t panic if the result is positive, you will be fine. I know you will be.  Drink warm water with crushed ginger and garlic. Add some lemon for a zesty effect. Most importantly, obey the body. Rest. Sleep. Drink water. Lots of it. And stay positive. You will be fine. Talk to friends who care. I just want to send a special mention to that friend who tested positive, you are loved. I will keep praying for you...

Tributes While I Am Still Alive

My birthday is coming soon, April 1.   I am 39 and very proud of it. Most women shy away from their age and I can’t really tell why?! My younger sister is always dreading her birthdays and one of my cousin’s have been 26 for the past 5 years.  I am one person who bluntly says my age whenever I am asked, irrespective of who and how it’s asked! Yes 39 and beautiful at heart ๐Ÿ’œ. No children yet and relationship is very much complicated. Relationship wise, I guess I’ve become too comfortable being single. (Hope my mum will skip this part) The things I look out for now are so funny and petty. 1. How he chews when eating  2. Use of shorthand to chat  3. His cologne  4. Low key on social media  5. I’ll end it at 4. In my 39 years on earth, I’ve made some mistakes and learnt a lot from it. I’ve hurt people and  I’m deeply sorry, if you are one of them. Others I know, others I have no ...

Everything Good Will Come

“ I danced the *kpalongo, fearing nothing for my sanity, or common sense. I added a few foreign steps to disorientate the discontented so-and-so: flamenco,can-can, Irish dancing from side to side. Nothing could take my joy away from me. The sun sent her blessings. My sweat baptized me.” ~Enitan Taiwo.  The day Fanny told me “everything good will come”, I felt she was in a better place so she could afford to say things like this to me.  I thought she didn’t understand my pain. I am sure she sensed I wasn’t impressed. Those words sounded like she was being dismissive of my pain. That was far from it. Now, I know better.  Thank you, Fanny.  I have learned; those words are one of the kindest words someone can say to you. You have to enjoy the process. It’s all yours! What’s life without the downs? The bumpy rides make you appreciate life on a smooth road (when you eventually get there). We will all get there soon.  I have been mouthing “everything good will come” fo...
