This Is Coming From Someone Who Loves Going On Dates

I love to dress and show up for me and my date. I love being courted (wooed) by a man who fancies me.

I love the talking stage. It’s perfect when he’s funny because I love to laugh.

Lately, I avoid dates because of Covid-19.

I met a guy at a supermarket, he said “hello”, i nodded and walked away.

He wanted to say more but I wasn’t interested in new friendships(so unlike me).

When I entered my car, I smiled to myself wondering if it was indeed me being unchatty with the fine guy at the supermarket.

I remembered one of my dates. It was a Saturday, a guy met on my job asked me out for a drink. I met him up at a pub. He was excited to see me out of my work clothes(he mentioned it).

There was an unexplainable happiness in his voice and his loud laughter was an oddity. We were in the process of ordering our cocktails when two men walked in.

They both looked at us(I was looking at them too), I noticed the tall dark one winked at me. I was thinking it was just my mind (I have a wandering mind). They sat opposite our table.

Now, I was sure it wasn’t my mind making  up anything.

Mr. Tall-dark-fine was literally staring at me. And I felt he was saying something about me to his friend(he didn’t stop looking at me).

My date didn’t notice all this, he was busy being loquacious. I was tired of hearing about his job (an engineer), politics and his collapsing love life.

After the third wink I told myself I needed to help him because I liked him too. I found his flirts so cute.

It’s the way he smiled at me

It’s the way his lips kissed the beer glass

It was his eyes, they were speaking to me in winks

It was him,I couldn’t take my eyes off him

Then his lips silently mouthed “hello”

Tall-Dark-Fine is mine.

I wanted to jilt my date and head straight to his table. My thoughts were distracted.....“Did you hear that?” (I didn’t know exactly what I should be hearing) my date asked with a roaring laughter. I didn’t bother asking. He seemed pleased laughing at his own jokes.

Suddenly his laughter was annoying me. I was questioning my life choices now. I excused myself to use the ladies room.

I walked past his table (Tall-Dark-Fine) and retreated my steps, looked straight into his eyes and  said “you look familiar, do I know?” “I think so too, I was just telling my friend the same thing, do you work with a bank?” I smiled and mentioned my place of work. Then he lied, “oh I think it’s your job”. I agreed it must be on the job. We exchanged numbers and he introduced himself. Mr-Tall-Dark-Fine had a name. “I will ring on Monday”(i repeated it in my head). I walked to the washroom smiling to myself. I couldn’t keep calm. I went on a date and had another.

It turned out Mr-Tall-Dark-Fine had a family living abroad. We settled on friendship (without benefits 😝). We did hang out couple of times before he returned to his family.

When we see good looking men on our dates, he pulls me close to himself, hugs me tightly and whispers “I recognize that look Fauz!”(it tickles me).

  3. 🤣🤣This actually reminds me of a friend of mine. She has short attention span. If you are talking long n))) she checks out mentally. She does it to me quite often actually. I often have to pause mid sentence and wait for her to "come back from wandering". 🤣🤣

Heels are not my wedding shoes

I thought we had Covid-19  under control but Ghana is steadily moving to a second wave of covid cases. Why? People are not taking the Covid-19 protocols serio usly and that’s pretty upsetting . My teammate joins the public transport every day to work and she tells me, she’s sometimes the only one wearing the mask. That’s very unfortunate. I wish we will all be responsible because covid doesn’t end with how cautious you are. We protect ourselves to save ourselves and others. Wear your masks, wash your hands, keep a sanitizer and observe social distance.   Don’t panic if the result is positive, you will be fine. I know you will be.  Drink warm water with crushed ginger and garlic. Add some lemon for a zesty effect. Most importantly, obey the body. Rest. Sleep. Drink water. Lots of it. And stay positive. You will be fine. Talk to friends who care. I just want to send a special mention to that friend who tested positive, you are loved. I will keep praying for you...

Tributes While I Am Still Alive

My birthday is coming soon, April 1.   I am 39 and very proud of it. Most women shy away from their age and I can’t really tell why?! My younger sister is always dreading her birthdays and one of my cousin’s have been 26 for the past 5 years.  I am one person who bluntly says my age whenever I am asked, irrespective of who and how it’s asked! Yes 39 and beautiful at heart 💜. No children yet and relationship is very much complicated. Relationship wise, I guess I’ve become too comfortable being single. (Hope my mum will skip this part) The things I look out for now are so funny and petty. 1. How he chews when eating  2. Use of shorthand to chat  3. His cologne  4. Low key on social media  5. I’ll end it at 4. In my 39 years on earth, I’ve made some mistakes and learnt a lot from it. I’ve hurt people and  I’m deeply sorry, if you are one of them. Others I know, others I have no ...

Everything Good Will Come

“ I danced the *kpalongo, fearing nothing for my sanity, or common sense. I added a few foreign steps to disorientate the discontented so-and-so: flamenco,can-can, Irish dancing from side to side. Nothing could take my joy away from me. The sun sent her blessings. My sweat baptized me.” ~Enitan Taiwo.  The day Fanny told me “everything good will come”, I felt she was in a better place so she could afford to say things like this to me.  I thought she didn’t understand my pain. I am sure she sensed I wasn’t impressed. Those words sounded like she was being dismissive of my pain. That was far from it. Now, I know better.  Thank you, Fanny.  I have learned; those words are one of the kindest words someone can say to you. You have to enjoy the process. It’s all yours! What’s life without the downs? The bumpy rides make you appreciate life on a smooth road (when you eventually get there). We will all get there soon.  I have been mouthing “everything good will come” fo...
