Beautiful Story

Dear reader,

It is me again and this time I have a beautiful story. You are probably wondering, who the heck are you”? Well, go read the post titled “A Useless Story” on this blog. It’s a useless story as the title suggests, but you might actually enjoy it. But this is a beautiful story this time. At least that is the plan for us long as I can stay focused. I have the tendency to wander. Perhaps, you could help me out this time. When you see me digressing, silently will me back to stay focused on this beautiful story.

Okay, so this beautiful story is about friendship. I am not sure how it came to be, but I ended up with some of the most amazing people as friends. Some friends I met because we used to buy beans from the same “Daavi”, others in the exam hall when I copied from them (don’t judge me). And some others, we became friends after we found ourselves in an “entanglement”. Actually, that is just wishful thinking.

There are a couple of my friends that I hope to get entangled with. That hasn’t happened yet, but perhaps this post will finally make it happen. Okay, I will stay focused on the beautiful story. We can talk about entanglements later. So, where was I? Yes, how I met some of my super amazing friends. One friend wore a long brown skirt and that was enough to start a friendship – that is the simplified version of the story 😊

My friends have really helped me a lot. Sadly, I have disappointed a number of them a anumber of times but they continue to be there for me. I truly appreciate that about them. I am striving to be as good of a friend to them as they are to me…I am really working on it.

You know the interesting thing, that is not even the most beautiful thing about them? What is then you ask? They can insult!! Yes, and in all kinds of languages too. Oh, I know you are thinking I am digressing and willing me back to focus on the beautiful story. I appreciate that, this is actually the beautiful part of the story.

So, my friends insult even when unprovoked. Often times when I call here is how the phone is answered “Idiot, what do you want”, “Kwasia, don’t come and waste my time”, “Asoo (I am not even sure how to translate that from Ewe)”, “Do you know you are a fool?”. I will not even go into how they end the call; I am sure you have an idea by now. I am so used to my calls being answered that way that, when I call someone and I don’t hear such “welcomed greeting” I get confused and often think perhaps they don’t know its me so I start to introduce myself or that someone else has their phone.

Recently. I called a work colleague, she answered the phone and said “Hey, whats up?”, I was silent for about 30 seconds and she was wondering if I was still on the phone. I had to explain that I was not used to such “friendly greeting” so I did not know what to say next.

Yes, their ability to insult is one of the most beautiful things I love about my friends. It always makes for a good laugh. Helps lift your spirit when you are down. My friends allow you to be you. I hope you find or have friends as great as mine. By the way, as a word of caution if you provoke one, we will all come for you. Stay Safe Out There!

  1. I have amazing friends too. And I love them so much. We don’t insult each other like you do with yours though. Thank God for our friends especially those who don’t insult us. 😝
