My passport expires on October, 2020. I decided to start the process of renewing this year.
My birthday plan was to do a road trip through Cote d’ivore, Liberia through to Senegal with two of my girlfriends. Unfortunately lockdown happened. Covid-19 is a kill joy.
Back to getting my passport renewed, I wanted to avoid rushing or paying extra to get a new passport. I decided to go through the normal process by filing the online forms. My appointment was 0900hrs on July 21st, got there by 0830hrs. The British in me! Followed through the protocols; washing of hands taking of temperature etc. All this was done at the main entrance of the passport office. Finally I drive in to get a parking spot.
First point, you show your appointment form and you're instructed to grab a seat. After you’ll be called and attended to. All social distancing protocols were adhered to.
As soon as I took my seat, a gentleman walks up to me and says “madam you have taken my seat” I looked at him in amazement and asked how? His response “ I was seated here and got called. I smiled and just told him to grab another seat because I didn’t see any sign of you seated here.
He smiled and said “I’ll allow you because you are beautiful, by the way I like your dress.” π
Finally got called by a woman behind a desk. I walked to her and she greeted me with “I love your dress madam, beautiful dress, you look amazing!” I blushed and responded with a broad smile π and "Thank you."
I returned to my seat only to be complimented on the beauty of the dress. At this point, I was beaming with smiles.
After being attended to, I noticed a gentleman and a police officer who just couldn’t take their eyes off me. They were staring and admiring me. I had to give out my name when we started a conversation. My surname gave me up. They asked: “was your dad into politics?”. “He’s my uncle” The police officer responded, “he was my boss and I like him paaaa.”
Now, I had to be called to take my picture at the same time I needed to use the ladies room (some of us are so paranoid about the corona virus, we drink Vitamin C as if it is a vaccine).
I returned from the wash room to realize lots of people had gone ahead of me. I approached a man (he worked there) with a smile and asked why? His response blew my mind “You’re too pretty to even join the normal queue, let me look for your form and take you to the protocol session”
In fifteen minutes, I had taken my picture and left the passport office. I spent only an hour and some few minutes there (this could have taken forever to get done).
Moral of the story: Wear a good dress and love yourself in it.
The Dress: Macy’s $178 (I don’t regret buying it at all).
